The Best Decision

I really love this quote.

In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.

~ Theodore Roosevelt

There’s no doubt the year ahead will continue to be one with a lot of unknowns.

We don’t really know what will happen with the global pandemic and the full impact of it all on our economy. We don’t really know what will happen with the political environment, nor what the new normal will look like next.

All this uncertainty can make it challenging, even scary, to set goals and plans. It’s like trying to navigate through a dense forest in the dark.

It’s challenging, but not impossible.

In fact, times of great uncertainty such as this are when to double down on setting goals and plans. It’s more important than ever to have clarity on your goals, as they will direct you and allow you to move forward through all the chaos.

In order to lay out a path before you in an uncertain world, first, you will need to be courageous. You’ll also need to be decisive, intelligently mitigate your risks, and be incredibly flexible and adaptive to the ever-changing environment.

**Note** This is NOT the time to wait and see. It is NOT the time to stay stuck in a holding pattern.

Remember: No decision is still a decision.

And as Teddy Roosevelt said, it’s often the worst one.

So, flex your decision muscles. Practice making decisions even though you don’t have all the answers and have lingering feelings of doubt. Have confidence in your ability to learn and adapt quickly.

At the same time, bend and flow with the currents of our world. As situations change and obstacles come up, get busy in your response to them. Reroute your path towards your goals.

(And all the while, take really, really good care of yourself.)
