Do this to stay motivated
How do I stay motivated?
It’s a question I get a lot.
Staying motivated is a lot harder than getting motivated. Staying motivated is also challenging when you’re not having lots of wins.
Staying motivated is about the grind. It’s about grit.
It’s getting yourself to do the not-so-glamorous, behind the scenes work.
It’s the early mornings.
It’s working even when you don’t feel like it.
It’s making decisions even when you’re not sure.
It’s doing the work day after day.
It’s the willingness to be uncomfortable.
At the start, you can push through a lot of this with some will power. But, what’s going to take you to the finish line are your habits.
In this case, the habit of celebrating your wins, even the small ones, to top off your motivation.
Celebrate Your Wins
- Did you set your alarm for 5:00 AM and then get up? That’s a win.
- Did you plan your day before you jumped in? That’s a win.
- Did you sit down and make calls even though it’s not your favorite task? That’s a win.
- Did you hit send on an important email? That’s a win.
- Did you take good care of yourself (drink lots of water, get to bed on-time, etc.)? That’s a win.
These small victories may seem small and mundane, but each one is an important building block. They stack on top of each other to get you to the big victories. Celebrate them.
As humans, we require lots of acknowledgment and encouragement to stay motivated.
Surround yourself with people who will celebrate these victories with you.
But most importantly, celebrate them for yourself. Do it a lot and do it often.
Have you heard Snoop Dogg’s speech for his Hollywood Walk of Fame star? He even released a song titled, “I wanna thank me.” A beautiful example of having fun and celebrating in a hilarious way.
Check it out below. And, it probably goes without saying given its Snoop, but explicit lyrics…
