The most annoying question…

How are you? How was your weekend?  Will you have an awesome week this week?

Life is just a series of questions that we ask each other and ourselves.  What am I going to do today? What’s most important right now?  How do I get this job done?  What do I think about this situation?  Am I going to be okay?

The great news about this is, our brains are naturally wired to look for answers to the questions we ask.  The bad news is, most of us are asking the wrong questions. When you make a mistake and you ask yourself, “How can I be so stupid?” your brain begins to look for ways in which you are stupid.  If your feeling overwhelmed in your business and can’t figure out what to do next, and you ask yourself, “Why is it so hard?” your brain will tell you all the reasons business is hard. Asking the wrong questions can really set you back in your business and life, as you convince yourself you don’t have enough time, energy, resources, intelligence, and so on to get what you really want.

Break the bad question pattern by first asking better, more empowering questions.  Here’s some examples so you know what I mean:

  • Instead of asking, “Why do you always procrastinate this to the last minute?” ask yourself, “How can I better manage my projects?”.
  • Instead of asking, “Why does this have to be so hard and complicated?” ask yourself, “How can I make this easy and fun?” (This one is a personal favorite!)
  • Instead of asking, “Why is my business so overwhelming?” ask yourself, “How can I get support and delegate?”
When you ask smarter questions, your brain will find you smarter answers.  If you don’t know the answer, ask yourself this: If I knew the answer, what would it be?

Yes, this is the most annoying question in the world – mostly because it makes your brain think and work harder to find the answer.  Stop hiding behind, “I don’t know.”  It’s what will keep you stuck.  Stick with this question and believe in your ability to find answers and solutions.  You’ll be amazed at what answers you are able to come up with, with just another couple of minutes or even just 15 seconds thinking on this question.
