Think about it.
There are two things that get you to the promised land of completion – the completion of tasks, projects, goals, and dreams.
- Thinking
- Doing
Seems so simple right? I used to believe that it was #2, Doing, where a lot of people failed. After years of coaching of coaching hundreds of people, I now believe it’s actually #1, Thinking.
The act of thinking is what leads to understanding issues, problem solving, decision making, creative and better ideas, plans, next steps and so on.
However, in our short-attention span, overly distracted world, it’s not easy to sit still and think. Instead we think on the road, we think in the shower, we think while lying in bed trying to fall asleep. It feels like we are thinking all the time. So what’s the problem?
In a highly distracted environment (such as while driving or showering), we tend to spin on the same thoughts and it’s more difficult to come to the desired outcomes of thinking – decisions, plans, next steps. This takes intentional, distraction-free, focused thinking. It’s the ticket to forward movement.
Start by setting aside time and distractions. Set a clear intention such as, “I need to make a decision about ____,” or, “I need to make a plan for ____.” You’ll be surprised at how quickly decisions and plans can be made when you take that time to do it intentionally.
Once your clear on your plan/decision/next step, you’ll be free to move forward.
