What Wilson knows…

Go Hawks!

Congrats to the Seahawks for their thrilling 24-23 victory win over the Patriots yesterday!  Truth is, I’ve never been much of a football fan, but I love learning what makes top athletes who they are.  There’s oodles of lessons about business and life that we can glean from these amazing players!

In the post-game press conference, Quarterback Russell Wilson shares his thoughts on how to play a great game – adopt these ideas for a kick-ass week!

1.  Prepare the right way
“My biggest fear is not being prepared enough… I always come prepared,” said Wilson.  In the game of football, business, and life, we have to be prepared for the opportunities that it throws at us to fully capitalize on them.  What ducks do you need to have lined-up to fully jump when opportunity knocks?
2.  Play one play at a time.  Worrying about what might happen and getting stuck on what has happened is like texting while your driving.  You can’t be fully present at the task at hand.  You’re 100% focus is what gives you the edge in this world of distractions – in productivity, creativity, and satisfaction.
3. Focus on what you can control. Wilson can’t control what the other team will do, and you can’t control all the events of the outside world.  But, you CAN control your response – how you interpret the event and what you choose to do about it.
4. Be quick with your decisions and believe in them.  This is my favorite tip from Wilson.  We spend way too much time and energy trying to make decisions and second guessing them when we do.  Imagine if all that time, focus and energy was put towards moving towards your end zone??
5. Make it your goal to get nuggets of information from every game.  We can never stop learning.  Even pro-athletes need to focus on improving his or her game.  Look for your nuggets of information everyday that can make you a better business owner, employee/employer, service provider, partner, parent, citizen, and person to make your next play even more awesome.

To your next touchdown!
