The deep end of the pool
My first real job in high school was lifeguarding and teaching swim lessons to kids. They would often have cold feet when it came to jumping off the diving board and into the dive tank that was 12 feet deep.
So, I shared with them a secret that I’ll share with you, because in business we often find ourselves on the metaphorical diving board wanting to make the big jump, but afraid to
“You can swim in deep water just like you can in shallow water,” I’d whisper to them. The depth of the pool was intimidating, but had nothing to do with succeeding. These little swimmers needed to be reminded of their newly honed ability to swim.
If you’re still standing at the end of the diving board in your business, don’t let your mind play tricks on you. You simply need to have faith in your ability to learn and figure it out until you succeed. It’s time to jump!
