Freedom in Your Why

Egads! Can you believe we’re already past the half-way point of 2019? I hope you took the time to celebrate your wins from the first half. If not, what are you waiting for? Get to it! Taking the time to celebrate keeps you motivated, energized and builds your confidence.

Tomorrow is July 4th, America’s Independence Day. It’s definitely time for BBQs and fireworks! And, it’s also a great time to reflect on freedom.

Having your own business holds many dreams of freedom – freedom to do what you love, freedom to own your own time, and freedom to make as much money as you dare.

Freedom in Your Why

When it comes to getting down to your why I believe we all have a flavor of freedom in there.

And, let’s not forget the fun freedoms such as the freedom to fly first class, the freedom to go on an African safari, the freedom to upgrade your house or car, or buy those $400 shoes.

Your Freedom Symbol

I say, “the freedom to,” because it’s not really about having the shoes. Great shoes will come and go after all. It’s about having the ability to buy the shoes or car or the dream vacation you want without worrying about your finances. The shoes are just a symbol of that freedom.

What’s the freedom the underlines your why? Dig a little deeper to unearth something that symbolizes that freedom.

Let’s say your why is to own your time. Why do you want to own your own time? Perhaps it’s because you want to take the summer off to travel the world with your kids. That trip is perfect the perfect freedom symbol.

Or, perhaps you want to make a boatload of money. Why do you want to make more money? Because you want to buy your dream boat! (See what I did there?) Your dream boat is your freedom symbol.

Use these freedom symbols to help you stay motivated and connected to your why. Having concrete examples of the freedom you seek, rather than vague ideas, will help your mind stay focused on the goal.

Put an image of your freedom symbol on your vision board and use it as your digital wallpaper to keep it top of mind. Don’t over think it – it only has to make sense to you.
